I'm fulling willing to pay for this content (I'm not arguing this should be included for free), but what I'm not willing to do is embrace a whole different industry I'm in no way interested in to fully exploit one that I am.

They have only everything to gain, and they are losing out right now from customers like me who would pay separately. If that's the case, what has Nintendo to lose by giving us a choice? All those astronomical sales are people who want the figure. And so we haven’t really established them as an enhancement for all of our software at this point". "What we’re seeing instead is that the amiibo are being picked up more as a collection item at this point, rather than, say, as an interactive item with software. It's not like if they do, their amiibo sales will suddenly fall off a cliff. Besides, this excuse doesn't absolve Nintendo from not offering an option. That it wouldn't exist without an amiibo (which is unknowable), or that it's a "gift", or whatever other reason is irrelevant. What matters in the end is that this content is available, and there's no way to attain it other than buying a toy. It's not different than any other paid DLC in that regard. Exclusive access to in-game content is quite simply part of Amiibo, if one likes it or not.

Of course, they could offer Wolf Link as in-game DLC and maybe they will, who knows (even though I don't quite see how it would work considering that the interconnectivity with TP HD is part of what makes the implementation of Wolf Link interesting in the first place), but expecting it to be in the game for free is kinda silly. (Not that this changes much, ultimatively.) Point being, there's no reason to assume they would have brought Wolf Link back if it weren't for them having to come up with something to give the Amiibo a meaning.Īnd, honestly, in this particular case it feels less like a feature hidden behind an Amiibo paywall to me than a little gift for people who bought Twilight Princess HD, considering the majority of TP HD players will also own the Amiibo and with Wolf Link's functionality in Breath of the Wild being dependend on your progress in TP HD. Remember the unlockable Midna in Skyward Sword? The Red Lion King partner in Twilight Princess? The option to get followed by Sheik in Wind Waker?
